We have said goodbye ro Nick now who is off for his trip to Sri Lanka to birdwatch and surf and Aran misses him a lot. With Nick, we spent our first week of cycling down the east coast through small coastal towns, squid drying villages and coco plantations ranging from upmarket Thai beach resorts to small fishing villages to farang expat outposts, stopping off for temples and swimming.
We saw a few surreal things in the process: a Swedish village; monkeys trained to climb coconut palms and pick off and throw down the ripe ones; drank at a mad Texan’s Farang bar full of expat Europeans and their Thai wives and saw some second rate Thai Jimmy Hendrix.
Now we are continuing south to Chumpon where we will head inland.
