For the last 10 years everytime we have been to a beach in Europe with Nick he tends to complain about the lack of parrots and when we got to Broulee we understood his lack of enthusiasm for the nicest of European beaches that make the rest of us jump for joy. Broulee is a tiny town 5 hours south of Sydney with a few long beaches, a small headland, teeming with birds and where Nick’s family spend time when not in Canberra. We (all 7 of us now – Robbie, me, Carmel my mum, Annie robbie’s Mum, Shane, Paul and Julie) rented a beautiful house on the headland with a garden full of amazing birds just minutes from the beach, but we hung around in Nick’s house for most of the week as they fed us and watered us and showed us a good time. Christmas was a lively affair with 20 or so of us all around the table and then progressed into an x-factor style talent quest with everything from children’s plays to ukelele tunes, flute playing, Nick’s now famous copacabana performance and even an irish jig or two.
