A great ride, away from the murderous highway, through coconut groves and the odd market town whenever we crossed a bigger road. If Lord Google hadn’t blessed us with His maps app, I really can’t imagine how this could be done… These tracks appear on no paper map and navigating them would be impossible without satellite photos as there are loads of dead ends at rivers. On previous pre-google-maps trips we tried many times and usually backtracked as much as forward-tracked…

Birds for sale…a photo for nick as there are golden Orioles going cheep!

Uneventful riding, Aran delighted apart from a sore bum, which is the load a cycle-tourer must bear. Zev delighted too, especially when plied with spicy shrimp crisps to get a few more Kms out of him.

“more spicy” shrieks Zev at end of each bag

We arrive at the Mekong town of My Tho just in time as Zev is having a meltdown that no spicy crisp can cure and check into a “fancy” (for us) hotel on the river where we collapse and watch cartoons dubbed over with Vietnamese on our big TV, a real highlight of the trip for Aran, as he is deprived of such things at home. We hunt down some delicious, as always, noodles and tofu, take a 3 cent ferry ride to an island, guzzle at few “Bias” (beers) and hit the hay with the Aircon cranked.
